Not much to say. Just some random things.

It snowed yesterday and today. Some people have flowers starting to come up. I don't because I live in a duplex and I don't want to invest time and money in planting (and energy).

I fixed tacos for supper.

My youngest piano student turned five last week. He's the one who can't see very well, and he got glasses. He could see better today. We read stories, do flashcards, play with cars and a little tea set. We sing "The Ants Go Marching" while he marches. He's precious.

At work tomorrow we are having an April Fools potluck. I have water boiling for macaroni, but I don't yet know what I'm fixing.

The End (or as my little piano student says, "Vee End")

Magic Act

Today I met at the church with the pastor's wife and a couple of church ladies to make decorations for our upcoming ladies brunch at the end of April. One of the things we were doing was decorating little hats with ribbons and flowers and then putting a magnet on the back. We were doing all this with glue guns.

I know now a magician's trick. The glue would create a very thin string still attached to the hat and to my fingers, so when I put the hat down or tossed it into a box, it would move seemingly of its own accord back toward my hand.

Good times. I may go on the road!

I See the Future

I see the future and it involves a lot of technology. I think in the future people will no longer talk face to face or in person. Everyone will have gizmos attached to their ears and in front of their mouths. They will have devices to be able to see others' faces without meeting them anywhere. They will sit in chairs that exercise their muscles as they sit.

Family reunions will be on line. Business meetings will be on line. Babies will be delivered by an on-line doctor with either the help of a friend or a robot. Food won't mold. There will no longer be meat to eat. All buildings and manufactured goods will be "green."

If you don't do green, vegan, techno, you will not get the good jobs, the good houses, the good food. Your children will only be able to be educated at home by parents with old-fashioned books. Other children will be educated on-line without books. Spelling won't be important and neither will grammar, punctuation or good syntax.

Public speeches written by the individual delivering them will be a thing of the past. A beautifully morphed person will deliver a computer-created speech on line. We won't know our politicians, our leaders or our inventors.

If you want to participate in buying, communicating, living in a nice home, receiving news, being entertained, and getting a good job, you will have to have be implanted with a gizmo that can be scanned.

I can see that the future is heading toward fulfilling the prophecies of Scripture. Many of these things are already in effect or some version is. The good news is that God is in control.

Here's to MOMSTHEWORD for using LAIN correctly!! Yay!!

Here's to KAY for using LAIN correctly!! Yay!!

My Dad

Today is the tenth anniversary of my dad's death. Vernon Paul Horn, 77, passed away March 24, 1998. Father of Paula (Gary) of Pueblo, Gail (Bryan) of Colorado Springs, Keith (Rondii) of Pueblo. Also survived by his sister, Wilma of Lamar; brother Leslie of Springfield CO; grandchildren, Aaron, Jennifer, Caleb, Benjamin and Travis. Preceded in death by his wife, Margaret on December 5, 1997; parents Arthur and Goldie; brother, Calvin; and sister Alma. Born August 19, 1920 in Las Animas, CO. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and was a POW in Germany for more than a year. He also received a Purple Heart for being shot in the leg. He owned and operated Vern's Alignment Service until his retirement. His favorite pastime was fishing. His funeral service was on March 28, 1998, and he was buried at Mountain View Cemetery.

Dad was a wonderful provider. He was faithful to his wife and his family. He trusted Christ as his Savior when I was in 5th grade. He attended church after his salvation for a short time and for awhile sometime later. He read his Bible quite a bit and was faithful to tithe. I didn't know he had a sense of humor until I was an adult, probably because I didn't understand it.

As a mechanic with his own business for many years, Dad was scrupulously honest and fair. One time a man drove his own car up on the car rack so Dad could look under the car. Well, the man didn't have permission and ended up driving his car off the rack. My dad went ahead and fixed the damage for him.

Dad was a great fisherman for many years. Mostly he fished up and down the Arkansas River. He didn't really like to eat trout, so he ended up releasing them or giving them away to pleased strangers or friends.

When my mother passed away in December, three months before he did, it was a difficult time for him. The family, two caregivers and a friend stayed with him around the clock. I think at the beginning of that time he probably could have taken care of himself, but I think he didn't want to be alone in the house. Just before Christmas that year, Dad went into the hospital to have a hernia corrected. At that time he was found to have lung cancer. He told me he wished he had stopped smoking sooner.

On Sunday, 03/22/98, while my sister was staying with my dad, he told her to call an ambulance because something was very wrong. He was taken to the hospital that afternoon. Very quickly he lost many of his abilities until by Tuesday he was in a coma. He passed away that evening while several family members were there with him.

Dad was a good man. He always tried to do things right. I remember when some of us were out in the parking lot of the hospital right after he died, I told my uncle I wished I had told Dad to tell my mom hello. He said that by the time Dad got to do that, I would be up there myself. He meant that time is very short and even if I lived another 50 years, it would just be a very short time.

Your time is short too. Have you accepted Jesus as your Savior? Are you ready to go?

Proofs of the Resurrection

1. The two women went to the tomb to anoint the body of Christ. They expected to see Him there, but He was gone.

2. The tomb had been sealed at the burial of Christ, and guards were set around the tomb. The stone was rolled into a groove which made it very difficult to move. However, it had been moved.

3. The disciples did not believe the women when they told them that the tomb was empty. Even though Christ had told them earlier that He would die and be raised up in three days, it was like they had no clue. When they ran to tomb to see if the body was gone, they were shocked and surprised.

4. Christ appeared to His disciples and had Thomas touch His hands to feel the nail holes after the resurrection.

5. In the following days after the resurrection Christ appeared to a group of 500 people.

6.According to Scriptures and tradition, all of the disciples were killed for their faith. If they had been perpetrating a hoax as many have said, would they have carried the hoax through to their deaths?

7. The tomb was empty in spite of guards, seals, and a heavy stone.

8. The grave clothes lay as if a body had disappeared out of them.

9. Scripture says many times that Christ arose.

The truth is the truth. We can believe truth or not. We did not know or see Abraham Lincoln. We can believe the historical documentation about his life or not. We did not see Christ and His resurrection. We can believe the historical documentation about His resurrection or not. And we can believe the truth of Word of God.

"LAIN" Challenge

Mom's the Word commented under my "Lie vs Lay" blog that no one says "lain". I'm afraid she may be correct. But that doesn't mean it's a good thing. So, here's my challenge. If you can use any of the terms "have lain", "has lain" or "had lain" correctly in a conversation and then quote that usage on my blog under "Lie vs Lay", I will give you a gold star.

Examples: The clothes have lain on the floor all day. OR The dead bird had lain on the porch for two weeks. OR The dog has lain down in the dirt.

Remember to use "lain" anywhere you would use "rested". There cannot be an object.

Just think! This may be a start of a grammar revolution across America. In future years we may hear little children saying,"The baby doll has lain on the bed," or "But, mommy, I have already lain in my little crib for a long time and taken my nap." Oh, yes, it could happen!!!

Memed by Jened

I have been "memed" by Jened

The rules of the game get posted at the beginning.
Each player answers the questions about themselves.
At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves a comment, letting them know they've been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

What I was doing 10 years ago:
It was the week before my dad passed away and I was spending most of my time in the hospital.
Generally I was teaching high school at Park Hill Christian Academy.

Five things on my to-do list today:

Fix supper
Vacuum my bedroom

Snacks I enjoy:
Chips and salsa
Chocolate ice cream
Doritos/chips
Carrots/cauliflower
Little Debbie snacks
Food

Things I would do if I were a billionaire:
Give to my church and pay my pastor a decent salary
Give to missionaries
Pay for my children's student loans, for their bills and buy them each and house and a car--however, I would limit how much they receive otherwise because I want them to be productive.
Buy us a home/pay off our bills
Give to a number of people I know who need help
Establish/help a ministry that reaches out to children especially in foreign lands
Pay for a maid 2x a week

Five of my bad habits:
Eating
Talking too much according to my husband & son
Often unmotivated
Wasting time
Being a little preachy (only a little & I don't really think this is a bad habit)

Five (or more) places I have lived:
Pueblo, Colorado
Bainbridge, Georgia
Mishawaka, Indiana
Canon City, Colorado
Fort Collings, Colorado
Loveland, Colorado
Springfield, Missouri

Five people I want to know more about (a nice way of saying TAG):
Jen chose most of my contacts.
I only have a couple others, and they may not have blogs. You can post on my blog if you want to. If you read this blog and feel like doing the meme thing, that would be great. I'm not going to contact anyone. It's up to you.

Looking forward to Heaven

There are several reasons I am looking forward to going to Heaven. I won't have to deal with my own sin nature anymore. I won't have to worry about being a good and vocal witness to the unsaved people around me. I won't have to worry about being in God's will. I won't have to want to be perfect and know that I can't be.

I will be able to see Jesus' face. I will see my family ( I know many of them are there but I don't know if we will get to see each other). I will know the truth of everything I'm supposed to know the truth of. I won't have to be afraid of dying, of my family members dying, of circumstances that don't go right.

I will see all the sights of Heaven. I will have the right attitude about everything. I won't have to be chastened or live with the results of my sin. I will have a new body and maybe a new brain??

I know there are many other wonderful reasons to go to Heaven. I look forward to going (and I'm afraid to go).

Flying

When I was a child I really, really wanted to fly. One time when I had a stomachache, my mom told me to say over and over, "I don't have a stomachache, I don't have a stomachache." Well, it worked. So I thought that miraculous phrase could work on being able to fly. For hours and probably for several days I walked around quietly saying, "I can fly. I can fly. I can fly." After repeating it many times, I would jump up to see if it was working. It never did, but maybe I just didn't say it enough or jump high enough.

I had many dreams about flying. I dreamed I was a fairy (you know what I mean!) many nights. I dreamed I had pretty wings and that I could just decide to fly and I was able to do it. I usually flew at night in my dreams. Sometimes if people were around, they would hang onto my feet and try to keep me on the ground. In spite of that, I was able to fly freely most of the time. Maybe this is how the flying phrase ("I can fly") really worked.

My first boyfriend was Superman, who could fly. I dreamed he would rescue me and we would fly together. Also in these dreams were the 5 or 6 boys from next door. They were part of Superman's gang. They rescued me too.

I really don't want to fly anymore. I'm too afraid. I think about hang gliding, but I would only want to fly about 15 or 20 feet above the ground. It may not be practical, but who knows? Maybe some time, especially if I get skinny.

Some shallow thoughts.

PS--Do NOT psychoanalyse me for any reason concerning the above thoughts!!

Things

When I'm writing, I don't usually have a lot of problem with coming up with words, and if I do, I just go on writing and the word or a substitute usually comes to me. However, this is not case with speaking. I've always been pretty quick with words, so as my ability to come up with words quickly has changed some, it has become somewhat frustrating to me.

This is the way I envision my talking in the future. "Hey you, would mind going to that place and getting me some of those things next to the white stuff we use for a thing that's slapped together to eat and that green stuff that's crispy and the white creamy stuff that causes that weight gain? I would really appreciate it. And please get some of that stuff that bubbles and tickles that thing in the middle of the round part of you that sits on the top. I like the brown stuff best with nothing fattening and nothing that keeps you from sleeping. If you will do these things for me I will try to sew up those blue things that cover those long fat stick things on the bottom of you that are attached to your flat size 10 things used for walking."

Now some people could understand all of the above and be able to follow it. However, speaking like that isn't very satisfying, and I don't usually have to rename so many things in one paragraph. I hope I never have that much trouble. But if I do, remember to have that one thing the Bible says to have along with a lot of other things when you walk the Christian life, and treat me in that one way you're supposed to.

Thanks. QOTW

Why No Angels?

Something I have pondered lately is the fact that there were so few visible angels at the empty tomb. At Christ's birth there were many angels, and several angels had been involved in several events before the birth. At the actual birth there was a multitude of them praising God. This makes me think that the angels had been aware of this coming event for a long time and had been looking forward to it. It was a wondrous and magnificent thing in their angel existence.

But when the death, burial and resurrection took place, there were very few angels involved, at least ones that could be seen. The birth was absolutely necessary to fulfill Scripture and to accomplish the many aspects of Jesus' life. The death, burial and resurrection also fulfilled Scripture and were accomplished in obedience to the Father, but they also fulfilled God's eternal plan for the saving of mankind. It was not a careless, haphazard plan. It was the plan to bring us to God in the only way possible--the perfect Lamb of God giving His life for fatally flawed humans.

So where were all the angels? Could they not bear to see the Christ, the God of Heaven, give His life on a shameful cross? Maybe they like God the Father had to turn away from Christ as the weight of sin was put on His shoulders. By the time we become aware of the angel at the tomb, the angel's part is almost low key. Or maybe it didn't take a whole heavenly host to announce that Jesus wasn't there anymore because he had risen.

I wish there had been a thousand angels announcing what had been accomplished that day. But God, Who truly is omniscient, executed the events in a different way. Since one angel made a very short announcement about the resurrection, we have to think about it for ourselves. We are not sidetracked by the magnificence of heavenly angels, but instead we are wholly caught up in the words "He is not here for He is risen." Wonderful, amazing, joy-causing, humbling, mystifying. Praise God!

Things I Like about My Husband

There are many things I like about my husband. Here are some of them. He can sing. He sometime starts my car when it's cold outside. If he has cash in his pocket he will often give me some without my asking. He is clean. He brings me things. He turns up the heat in the house when I am cold. He tries to make me happy. He is a good father. He pays the bills. He takes care of the vehicles. He is faithful to attend church and serve the Lord. He likes the little kids at church and they like him. Sometimes he does the dishes. He likes my cooking. He misses my mom and his mom. He tries to get me what I want for birthdays and Christmas. He always likes my new hair cuts. He listens when I tell about how I slept or how I feel (not always the most interesting topics). He helps me with formatting my programs, etc., and making them look really nice. He preaches at church when he gets the opportunity. He doesn't cuss, smell bad, hit anyone, commit crimes. He likes his job. He loves his children. He loves me and has through thin and thick. When I told him today I needed to spend money for a couple of things (for a church potluck tomorrow and for a hair cut and to buy a hamburger for lunch), he told me I might as well spend the money we have on those things. He often puts gas in my car even when it's cold and windy and he doesn't feel well. He helps me when I'm sick. He doesn't spit, cry, or dance much.

When you get first get married, you do so for certain reasons. When you've been married 35 years, there a whole lot more reasons to be married. My husband is a good man, and he married a good woman.

Stuff in Your Teeth

I always hate to find out at the end of the day that I have food pieces in my teeth and none of my really good friends, co-workers, or family members thought to tell me about it. This makes me feel betrayed, unloved, and mean in my heart. Sometimes it's actual pieces of food. Sometimes it's little bits of black pepper in the crevasses of several teeth. This makes one's mouth a thing of great beauty.

Several years ago I was selling House and Lloyd Toys and Gifts in Canon City. I had gone to the house of a women to have a party and demonstrate the items for sale. After I got there the hostess continued working on something in another room while we were waiting for guests to arrive. Well, we waited a long time before anyone came.

The hostess had a little girl I had met before. I already knew she was pretty strong-willed and liked to have things her way. Well, she and I were waiting together in the living room. The refreshments were already set up and they were Oreo Cookies. The little girl really wanted me to eat some cookies while we were waiting. I told her I didn't want to because it would cause me to have black stuff in my teeth. Well, over and over she told me to go ahead and eat some cookies, that I wouldn't have black stuff in my teeth.

Finally I went ahead and ate a cookie or two. I worked diligently at making sure I didn't have any black stuff. I don't know if I did or not. I do believe that little pushy girl probably wouldn't have told me if I had anything in my teeth. I think maybe I should just have left all the black stuff and been a raving (as in lunatic) beauty.

One time for Halloween I had bought some really ugly crooked teeth to wear. Our church had a Harvest Festival in a building at the Fairgrounds. A group of ladies and I were singing a special for the program. The program was mostly goofy, and I think the song we sang was goofy. I was also playing the keyboard and only singing on the chorus. My mouth was shut until it was time for me to sing, so people couldn't really tell that I had the teeth in. Keep in mind most of the children were sitting right up in front of the stage where we were singing. As soon as I opened my mouth, they were shocked and awed by my teeth. They stared the whole time at me. Later after the program was over, one of the little kids came up to me and said, "Those aren't real," as if I had been trying to pretend they were, but I didn't fool him!

When Jen was little, her dad used to let food be in his teeth or hang out of his mouth. This would drive Jen wild. She couldn't stand it, but the rest of us laughed with great enthusiasm at her. I think she would still react the same way today.

Having stuff in your teeth isn't all good, but it's not all bad either.

Hats Off to You

I'm helping to plan a ladies brunch for my church for the end of April. Our theme is "Hats Off to You." We will talk about all the hats a woman/mother wears in her lifetime, and then we will talk about some of the hats God wears as the Father, the Savior, the Lamb, the Light, the Shepherd, the Resurrection, the Life--I haven't decided yet exactly which ones.

Well, I said all that to say this. Does anyone want to send me any hats or pictures of hats? We are going to use straw hats decorated with flowers and ribbons along with hat boxes as centerpieces. We are going to make little refrigerator magnets out of small straw hats. Anyway, I need a couple of old-fashioned hats to pin to a bulletin board or to put on side tables. Any possibilities?

I love to plan events for ladies meetings. At some point in my life I may compile some of the programs I've done into a book. This may be just wishful thinking. We'll see.

Rattlesnake Meat

A poem by Ogden Nash

A gourmet challenged me to eat
A tiny bit of rattlesnake meat,
Remarking, "Don't look horror-stricken,
You'll find it tastes a lot like chicken."

It did.
Now chicken I cannot eat
Because it tastes like rattlesnake meat.

The end.

Learning to Play the Piano

When I was in elementary school, my mother received the big upright piano that her parents had. She had my sister and me start taking piano lessons. I was in the 5th grade and my sister was in 3rd. I still think 5th grade is a good time for kids to start piano lessons. My sister and I had to practice an hour a day for our first teacher, and that's when we hardly knew anything to practice.

I continued to take piano up through my senior year in high school except for my junior year. I thought I wanted a break and was thinking about quitting. I didn't quit, however, and continued taking a couple of years in Bible college and at least a semester at state college.

In about junior high I played one-handed for junior church in our church. Later I played for a Bible study my mother and I went to. When I got into high school, another friend and I shared the playing for church services. By then I was playing with both hands.

Ever since my high school years I have played the piano for nearly every church and/or Christian school my husband and I have been in. I also have taught piano lessons much of that time. Playing the piano has been one of the foundational elements of my life. The Lord has allowed me to use my piano playing in a variety situations. I have played for cantatas, music programs, weddings, funerals, church services, school chapels, and as accompanist for singers and choirs.

At least part of the reason my husband and I got together is because of his singing ability and my piano playing ability. I have accompanied him many, many times. I was able to give piano lessons to my children, and that was at least in part the reason they went on to be musicians: both sing; Aaron took saxophone and guitar; Jen took flute. I feel like our family's life would be much different without the influence of the piano.

I am really grateful to my mother for making me take piano lessons at the start and for paying for them and for spending time and effort to take me to lessons. My sister went on to play the French horn and was a talented singer. Our mother was a major influence in this area of our lives.

I say that every child benefits from taking piano lessons. The benefits far outweigh the negatives. QOTW

My Grandma and her Brother

I just want to tell one story about my Grandma Rose. She was in a nursing home in her later years, and I believe she mostly liked it there even though she did complain about a man who threw her into the bed.

One time my mother, my aunts and I went to visit Grandma. We were all sitting around a table in the big lunchroom trying to have a conversation. At that time Grandma wasn't into conversing much.

After a couple of minutes during which nothing was being said, my Grandma looked around and said, "I haven't had this much fun since the pigs ate my baby brother."

Well, being the analytical person that I am, I started thinking. Did Grandma really have a little brother I never heard about and who got eaten by pigs? For all I knew pigs really might eat a small person. Or was Grandma saying she was pretty bored since nobody was saying anything? Or was she saying she wasn't very bored and that the present company and moment were pretty exciting and just under the excitement of having the pigs eating her brother? Or maybe we all reminded her of her baby brother and needed to be eaten by pigs. I don't know the truth of it. However, it was a very interesting statement and I have used it several times in the past years.

Thursday--13 Sayings

I am listing 13 sayings that I have known, loved or hated over the years.

1. From my mother: Didn't you even think about doing it right?
2. From my mother: Don't look at me like that! (I tried many different looks trying to come up with the right one.)
3. From my mother: Just tell God that you are willing to be made willing.
4. From my husband when asked what would be his greatest wish: For you (QOTW) to quit talking. ( I don't take that seriously.)
5. From the Watergate hearings from John Dean (I think): To the best of my recollection....
6. From my daughter when she was little: I don't want a big nose like yours.
7. From my son when he was young: I wish I could live in a boarding house so I could finally get something good to eat. (I believe that could be arranged.)
8. From a little girl I babysat many years ago when asked if she wanted more ice cream: It don't matter. (I didn't really know what that meant, so I kept piling it on.)
9. From many people: I love you.
10. From Mr. Spock (Star Trek): The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
11. From an advertisement: Take me away, Calgon.
12. From Clint Eastwood (Dirty Harry?): Make my day.
13. From Arnold Schwartzenhager in nearly every movie he made: I'll be back.

There are many better quotes than these especially from the Bible. I may make that list next time. QOTW

Little Brother

My little brother is almost ten years younger than I am. When he was born, the neighbors got to look at him before my sister and I did. I was not happy about that. It wasn't right.

As a side note, my mother showed me how to do wash just in case it needed to be done while she was in the hospital having the baby. When I got up the next morning and found out she had gone to the hospital, I immediately set about doing the laundry. I washed something red with the other clothes, and everything became a lovely shade of pink. Apparently there were other considerations than just putting the clothes in the washer. I now like to think of those pink underwear as a lovely memory of the day.

I didn't really have to take care of my baby brother too much when he was a baby. My mom wasn't working then, and she did all the caretaking. He got very sick when he was just a few months old, and I remember my mom crying as she rocked him. I now know he could have died then, but I didn't know anything about that then. My mother said she felt the presence of an angel sometime during that sickness. If you knew my mother, you would know she wasn't given to flights of fancy. She was a wonderful Christian who led many people to the Lord and who spent many hours studying God's Word and teaching it. So when she said there may have been an angel, all I can do is believe it.

My sister and I used to help my brother say his prayers at night when he was really little. We had him say, "God bless my family." The way he actually said it was, "God bless my flammy." We loved for him to say that. When he got a little bit older and said the words correctly, then we would make him say, "God bless my flammy." We just didn't want to let it go.

In my family the chief form of discipline was spanking. I was the QUEEN of spankings. I got many, many. Well, my sister and I used to discuss that we felt like the brother deserved to get spankings much more often than he did. However, when he received a spanking, my sister and I sometimes would cry in secret because our poor little brother was getting spanked. I guess we were of two or three minds about that.

In connection with his getting spanked, he could take many swats before he would cry. My sister and I finally had to tell him how it worked. We told him if he would cry after two or three swats, he wouldn't have to get as many. I think he changed his ways after that.

There's much more to say about this good brother. I won't say it now, but I may eventually. He is about 6'1" now and is a fireman and a godly Christian. Either the spankings or the prayers worked!

Stinky Things

I am eating cauliflower as I write. I heated it up at work and now the whole big room is stinky. People are not happy. They mostly keep it to themselves.

I live and work about 30+ minutes from Greeley, Colorado. That town is quite often cow stinky, and the smell of that "money" doesn't mind making its way to where I am. For some reason, though, I haven't made any money.

The other day I heated up a can of sauerkraut (spelling?), and my whole house was stinky. When the neighbor knocked on my door I didn't invite her in because the whole place smelled like an outhouse. I'm sure she could smell it at the door. Oh, well. When I knocked on her door, it smelled like a cigarette, so I guess we are even.

When I work the front desk at work, I smell people who have been smoking, drinking and working. It's not all good. Probably they can smell when I eat onions.

I come from a pretty long line of onion eaters. The smell reminds me of my mother and of hamburgers and of good times. I sometimes think about what I would take on a deserted island with me if I had to choose between chocolate and onions. I think it would have to be onions.

Stinky things aren't always good, but they aren't alway bad either.

Accidents

A while back I broke something in the shower. I now have to call the owner of our duplex. Then this past Friday, I dumped all the excess ice out of the icemaker. When I went to turn the thing back on, I must have accidentally hooked the lever that moves up and down to pour out the ice under the edge of the icemaker. I guess the motor got worn out trying to work. Now it won't work. I have to call the owner of our duplex.

A couple of weeks ago, my husband was playing a game with the kids in our Master's Club at church. It was a relay race that required going to the opposite end of the room with a flat bean bag on the head (the interesting part was that my husb and the other man playing had to move with their heads and hands at very odd angles). Well, my husband was hurrying, got his feet caught somehow and fell full frontal on the floor. It knocked the wind out of him. He stayed on the floor for several minutes trying to catch his breath while all the kids were standing around him. He scraped his elbow, and I think his ribs were a little sore the next day. But he survived and continued playing the game. Hero!

Then on Friday the husband was out in the parking lot at work checking out the Mountain Man Fruit and Nuts, and he was hanging onto a bar or handle of some kind, and it slipped and hit his knee really hard. He decided he may have broken his knee cap or something because he was in tremendous pain. He ended up going to the doctor who said, yes he hurt himself, but nothing too drastic. And oh, yes, he has arthritis in three places around that knee.

Well, here are our conclusions. He thinks I break things, and he doesn't really like that. I think he hurts himself, and I don't really like that. But we aren't bored.

Outreach

My church had a special outreach last night, Saturday. We were asked to invite a friend or couple either to go out for supper or to come to our house for a meal. Then we were to take our guest(s) back to the church for dessert, a skit and a devotional message. My husband and I invited Mona, a forty-something Catholic who has two grown sons and a little boy about five yoa. We went to Perkins for supper, not too fancy, but good food. We had a nice time talking. Mona is a lovely person. She seemed to enjoy herself, and her little guy made the statement that he wanted to come back here (to the church). He liked playing with the other kids. Mona said she would come to church sometime. Hopefully she will.

I have given out Christian tracts at work for Christmas for seven or eight Christmases along with Christmas cards about the birth of Christ. I have given out a tracts a few times at Easter. I've tried to be a Christian influence at work. Mainly the thing that seems to show my Christian walk the most is that I don't "cuss." I've only gotten to give the clear plan of salvation once to a co-worker. She stated that she had already "done that." Maybe she has. I think I've seen spiritual growth in her.

I would like to be more outspoken about Christ. I would like the Lord to give me more opportunities, but then I worry that I won't take them when they come.

A while back, the mother of one of my young co-workers (late 20s) was dying with fast moving cancer. I sent her mother a card with a tract in it. Her daughter told me she didn't think her mother was up to hearing that information. Later I found out her mother was a member of Wicka (spelling?). I just wish she could have heard the Gospel before she died. I know I'm not in charge of that part.

Just some of my concerns.

Confessions of a Sinner

This is the story about my one and only brush with criminal activity. When I was about eight years old, my family lived on the north side of Pueblo, Colorado. On that block lived many kids including a family named Brown who had a boy my age and a girl my sister's age and maybe a couple of other kids at that time. The Brown kids were known for always having homemade popsickles which they ate outside in front of all the other neighbor kids with no regard for our great need of having homemade popsickles too. I found their attitude to be very rude and selfish and totally unfair. I came to a decision to do something about this injustice.

One day when the Browns were gone, I took a small group of kids into their house. This was done easily enough since the door wasn't locked. Immediately I took the group into the kitchen and we helped ourselves to homemade popsickles. It was a wonderful and justified thing. And I decided that since we were already in the house, we should look around since we hadn't ever really seen the house before.

I was in the bedroom where I dripped pink popsickle juice (I never realized how much the word "popsicle" is like the word "pickle" until I started typing this story) on the white bedspread. Well, about that time, we all heard the Brown's car drive up outside. All the other children ran out the back door. I didn't. I shot under the bed.

I could see people's feet from my vantage point and could hear them (the people, not the feet) talking. My heart and brain were racing a mile a minute. What to do? What to do? I could either stay under the bed the rest of my life or I could slide out from under the bed and run out the backdoor. I chose the second option. I don't recall if the whole family saw me. However, I do know that the mother saw me. Needless to say (but I will say it anyway), I was not her favorite person from that time on.

I don't believe Mrs. Brown ever told my mother about this incident, so I never really got into trouble, which was either a good thing or a bad thing. I do know I never did anything like this again--God is good.

As an adult I understand why the child in me believed that a wrong had to be righted. Fairness was an extremely important issue. However, I do wonder why I didn't feel that stealing and breaking and entering were also wrong. And why didn't I feel any need to right those wrongs. I never apologized to the Browns. I was on their "bad" list for quite a while. And this wasn't the last episode I had with the Browns. A couple of years later they moved to a different neighborhood. Sometime after that, my family moved to the same block where they lived, and there were more contacts. I may tell you about them later.

The moral: Don't get so caught up in one thing to the exclusion of other important things.
OR: Always lock your doors.
OR: Share with the neighborhood kids if you know what's good for you.
OR: Don't ever hide under the bed to escape crime.
